DON POSITION AVAILABLE (applications accepted through November 30th.  Below is a list of job duties and requirements)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.      Organizes, plans, and directs departmental functions according to policies and regulations of Franklin Medical Center and in compliance with local, state, and federal codes pertaining to nursing.  Defines, interprets and implements the philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of nursing care.

2.      Represents the hospital in a professional manner to co-worker, patients, and the public.  Maintains a good attendance record.  Current health record.  Adheres to dress code.  Always sets a good example.

3.      Keeps up-to-date in field of Nursing.  Attends appropriate seminars and in-service programs.  Reads current literature.  Contacts other directors.  Maintains adequate library.  Belongs to a professional organization.  Maintains CPR update.  Current licensure.

4.      Plans Nursing Budget.  Projects goals and needs.  Furnishes Administrator with required information.  Maintains required salary limitations. 

5.      Serves on committees.  As appointed by the Administrator:  Infection Control, Pharmacy and Therapeutic, Quality Assurance, and Safety.

6.      Co-ordinates nursing activities with those of other departments.  Maintains good working relationships with other department heads.  Co-operates to work out problems, to keep smooth working conditions.

7.      Holds Nursing Administration meetings at least monthly.  Meets with all levels of nursing.  Sets standards.  Keeps subordinates up-dated on changes and special needs.

8.      Does performance evaluations on subordinates.  At end of probationary period, then yearly.

9.      Participates in plans for expansion and/or remodeling.  Meets with Administrator, architect, other appropriate people during any project / construction which concerns nursing service.

10.  Attends meetings.  Always attends Department Head and committee meetings or send representatives.

11.  Provides Orientation for new employees.  Maintains orientation program for all new employees.  Sees that new employees feel comfortable in position before allowing to function independently.

12.  Provides optimal standards of nursing care.  Administers nursing care by means of the nursing process, nursing care plans, and discharge plans meeting philosophical, physiological, and environmental needs.  Maintains Quality Assurance and Infection Control programs.

13.  Maintains records and proper documentation.  On-going surveillance of patient records, documents, and forms.  Appoints committee to assist.  Keeps current licensure list for RNs and LPNs. 

14.  In-service programs and continuing education.  Maintains on-going in-service programs including fire and safety, incorporates other staff members into program.  Sees that staff attends appropriate seminars.

15.  Determines staffing requirements.  Establishes patient classification system, which reflects needs.  Adjusts staffing accordingly.

16.  Interviews applicants for hiring, terminates personnel when necessary.  Recruits personnel when necessary.  With approval of Administrator.

17.  Takes corrective action.  Reviews all incidents reports.  Investigates irregularities and policy violations.  Solves problems.

18.  Maintains direct patient contact and involvement in patient care.  Makes daily rounds, reviews census, and condition reports.  Occasionally works a shift on unit.  Acts as Charge Nurse in Emergency Room.

19.  Serves as liaison with medical staff.  Maintain good relations with medical staff.  Follows through on problems.  Reports to Administrator.

20.  Provides appropriate assistance to LPN nursing students.  Has contract on file.  Is responsible for activities of students and instructors, and private duty nurses.  Maintains close relationships with teaching staff.

21.  All other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:        Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.  Completion       of course in nursing administration.  Licensed to practice in the State of  Louisiana.

 Work Experience:      Five to ten years experience, including experience as Supervisor           and Assistant Director.
