POSITION:                           RECEPTIONIST




FLSA STATUS:                   NON-EXEMPT


JOB SUMMARY:    Under the direction of the Rural Health Supervisor you are responsible for obtaining required information, admitting patient’s, and making appointments for patients in an efficient manner, in accordance with established policies and procedures directed by your supervisor.



Responsible to:            Rural Health Supervisor

Positions Directly Supervised:            None

Regular Contact with:       All Rural Health personnel, Physicians, and the public.




  1. Answers telephone for in-coming calls and forwards to proper person.
  2. Records messages and forwards to proper person.
  3. Schedules appointments for all physicians, return/follow-up visits, and consults/referrals.
  4. Completes community care referral forms.
  5. Keeps charts in order according to chart list.
  6. Assists in filing of lab, x-rays, etc.
  7. Enters patient information into computer. Keeps established patient’s information current in computer system.
  8. Daily batching and balancing of superbills and daily activity reports. Sends records to appropriate departments.
  9. Maintains patient’s records.
  10. Be able to properly use and maintain all equipment in work area.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.




Education and Training:  High school diploma.  Computer or business college experience preferred.

Work Experience:     Computer experience.  Medical terminology knowledge. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Ability to deal with public in a professional manner.  Good telephone skills and the ability to manage several clerical tasks simultaneously.  Knowledge of various managed care programs.  Basic understanding of Medicare/Medicaid/Commercial Insurance.

Physical Requirements:        Must be able to handle a fast paced environment. Have a positive attitude, and a willingness to work at anything assigned. Be in good health, able to stand, walk, stoop, bend and sit for prolonged periods.


OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY:   A      Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
