This is a full time LPN position that floats between Franklin Medical Center’s St. Joseph Rural Health Clinic and Newellton Rural Health Clinic.

POSITION:                           LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

 

DEPARTMENT:                  RURAL HEALTH

 

FLSA STATUS:                   NON-EXEMPT

 

 

JOB SUMMARY: Continuously responsible for providing professional nursing service (according to qualifications and training) and non-professional services as directed.  Directly responsible for performing patient care functions according to established standards, policies and procedures.

 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

Responsible to the Rural Health Clinic Director.

Positions Directly Supervised:            None

Regular Contact with all Hospital departments, Physicians, and the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Complies with established policies and procedures.
  2. Follows MD and Nurse Practitioner orders.
  3. Takes and records vital signs, assessments and height/weight as appropriate.
  4. Records medications/treatment on charts using proper procedure.
  5. Monitors supply usage and notifies appropriate departments to replenish stock as necessary.
  6. Performs venipuncture without difficulty.
  7. Prepares specimens for courier according to procedure.
  8. Places and returns calls to physicians, pharmacies, home health, etc.
  9. Assist patient in and out of clinic as needed.
  10. Adheres to all clinic infection control, hazardous waste and             pharmacy protocols.
  11. Participates in Performance Improvement on monthly basis.
  12. Maintains equipment.
  13. Knowledgeable in use of defibrillators, holter monitors, etc.
  14. Performs and Documents Quality Controls on daily basis.
  15. Displays on overall positive attitude.
  16. Maintains confidentiality to patients, families and fellow employees.
  17. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  18. Exhibits a professional, neat and clean appearance.
  19. Utilizes slack time creatively to complete non-routine tasks.  Sees things to be done and does with direction.
  20. Diabetic Foot Care
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Training: Graduate of a course for LPN.  IV Therapy course desirable.  Must be licensed in the state of Louisiana.  CPR certified.

 

Work Experience:   No experience necessary.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Must be capable of adapting to a changing environment.  Must be able to work independently as well as function as a team member.  Must be able to handle a high stress environment.  Must show good reasoning ability.  Demonstrates good judgment.

 

Physical Requirements: Physical demanding requires lifting and transferring patients and equipment. Must be able to withstand 8-12 hours or more of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting.  Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination and adequate vision required in daily work.  Must be able to hear well enough to assess blood pressure and communicate with patients.  Must be able to handle a fast paced environment.

 

OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY:                A     Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
