JOB SUMMARY:    The primary purpose of this job is to maintain the facility and its equipment in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by your supervisor, to assure that a successful, viable maintenance program is maintained at all times.

 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

Responsible to the Chief Engineer

Positions Directly Supervised: None

Regular Contact with all departments in the hospital

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.  The Engineer may perform other duties both major and minor, that are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

 

  1. Receive and follow maintenance schedule/ instructions from your supervisor and as outlined in our established maintenance policies and procedures.
  2. Perform routine maintenance and repair on the facility and equipment to include plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, etc. as directed in accordance with established procedures.
  3. Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance service.
  4. Maintain general plant and facility in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean, and orderly environment.
  5. Replace burned out light bulbs, to include exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc.
  6. Service heating and cooling units/systems as specified by the manufacturer and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  7. Assure that the facility and its equipment is properly maintained for patient comfort and convenience.
  8. Perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
  9. Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, breakdowns, etc. to your supervisor immediately.
  10. Ensure maintenance supplies have been replenished in work areas as necessary.
  11. Keep your work areas free of hazardous conditions such as grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc. to assure that all established safety rules and regulations are followed at all times.
  12. Performs other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Training:    Must possess, as a minimum, a 10th grade education. Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license.

 

Work Experience:  None required.  On the job training provided.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Must be able to read, write, speak, and hear the English language clearly.  Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.  Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors, and the general public.  Must be knowledgeable of safe maintenance practices, procedures and guidelines.  Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

 

Physical Requirements:        Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, and move intermittently during working hours.  Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.  Must possess sight and hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.  Must be able to work beyond normal working hours, in cramped spaces, and in adverse weather conditions.  Required to be on-call for emergency conditions or situations.  Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.

 

OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY:   A       Have occasional exposure to blood borne pathogens.
