I, Tommy Banks, was born and raised in West Monroe, LA. I graduated from West Monroe High School in 1997 and attended Louisiana State University on a football scholarship. I graduated from LSU in 2002 with a degree in Microbiology. In January, 2002, I married my high school sweetheart, Chrissy Carpenter. And in May, 2003, we had our first child, a son, Tommy IV, whom we call Tag. My daughter, Isabella Rose, was born in June, 2005, and around that time I made the decision to pursue my lifelong dream of attending medical school. I am currently a 4th year medical student at St. Matthews University School of Medicine and will be graduating in May, 2011.
Returning to school with a family has been a difficult but rewarding experience. My mother went to college after having three children, so I had seen the dedication necessary to make it a success. My father has always been selfless, particularly when it came to family and this has been a trait I have tried to emulate. Both of my brothers are also soon to be physicians. Mark is currently a surgery intern in Knoxville, TN, and Brandon is currently a 2nd year medical student at LSU-S.
While undergraduate and medical school have allowed me the opportunity to live all over the country, I have always considered Northeast Louisiana to be home. I look forward to the opportunities provided me by Franklin Medical Center to serve the medical needs of the great people of Franklin Parish and surrounding areas.
